It’s getting close to Wimbledon, so it must be strawberry picking time. There is something rather magical about heading out to a farm to pick your own fruit and kids of all ages just love it.
It’s a great lesson in field to plate for kids who, in an age of prepacked supermarket fruit and veg, often don’t fully understand where their food comes from.

Strawberry Picking at Thorne’s, Crediton
Thorne’s Farm Shop just outside Crediton has 125 acres of soft fruit and vegetables and is best known for its strawberries grown on the rich red soil. As well as strawberry picking, they have a farm shop, deli and cafe open daily so you can make it into a whole day out for the family.

We went to Thorne’s one Sunday and had a lovely welcome. Juicy, juicy strawberries, easy to pick as they are in raised beds, beautiful views, scrummy cream tea and great farm shop. Also small area with colouring/books for children in the cafe and good loos with baby change etc.
