I’m actually so excited about this I could squeak! Exeter is finally going to get its very own Lounge!
Puerto Lounge Exeter
Lounges bill themselves as being informal cafe bars at the heart of their local neighbourhoods; serving food, beer and coffee in a super chilled environment that is fabulously family friendly without a hint of chicken nuggets or plastic.
The original Lounge is just up the road from where our eco-friendly shops were in Bristol, so we spent quite a lot of time in there and never got bored of the relaxed atmosphere, good food and drink.
It was one of the first places in the UK where staff didn’t bat an eyelid at a round of beer, coffee, olives and cake, at any time of the day. There were always board games to play, papers to read and super clean loos. And staff who were very tolerant of small children and accommodating of their ways, which always made for a warm welcome.
Family Friendly Cafe Bar
They now have a whole section on their site for Little Loungers, detailing the children’s menu (starting at £4.95 for drink, pot of breadsticks, crunchy carrot, cucumber & red pepper sticks and a main course, with child sized puddings from £1.75) and their attitude to families:
We want our Lounges to be a real home-from-home for all our guests, and we know that if the younger Loungers are happy, then so are the grown-up Loungers!
They offer games and books, colouring pens/paper, highchairs and baby change facilities. They are very breastfeeding friendly and will also happily warm baby food/milk if you ask at the bar.
Children will love the quirky photos too – there used to be a photo of an astronaut that kept my then 4 year old entertained for hours.
Food for the grown ups is great too – with all day brunches, burgers, paninis, salads and tapas as well as a balanced range of mains. They also offer separate gluten free and vegan menus too.
The Puerto Lounge will be opening at 38 Commercial Road, Exeter Quay on 8th February. I think it will be my new home from home.
